SUMMARY:Origin Green - How can the bioeconomy support the Pathways to Net Zero initiative?
DESCRIPTION:Origin Green\, Ireland’s national food and drink sustainability programme\, has published new procedures and guidelines that put carbon emission targets on a mandatory footing for food and drink manufacturers as the sector seeks to accelerate its contribution to the Programme for Government’s aim of carbon neutrality by 2050. \nThis marks a significant shift for the Origin Green programme and will see member companies go beyond reductions of energy-related emissions\, to include a more comprehensive assessment of their entire carbon footprint\, including value chain emissions which incorporates all indirect emissions (scope 3) associated with food manufacturing e.g. freight\, travel. \nThis one-hour event will focus on how companies who develop a bioeconomy approach as part of its sustainability and innovation strategies can address its carbon emissions.  It will also highlight funding & finance opportunities that can support such considerations. \n\nWelcome and introduction – Deirdre Ryan\, Director of Origin Green\nOverview of the Bioeconomy and sustainability opportunities – Kevin O’Connor\, Director of BiOrbic\, Bioeconomy SFI Research Centre\nOrigin Green Member bioeconomy experience and lessons learnt – TBD\nBioeconomy funding supports available to Origin Green members: Cathal Fitzgerald\, Head of Food and Agricultural Investments NTMA-ISIF and Alexa Toomey\, Department Manager Dairy\, Beverages & Food FDI

This event will outline the help available to assist in navigating the pathway across the difficult valley from ‘Research to Business funding’. We will also hear about sources of funding from the European Circular BioEconomy €250 million Fund. \n  \nMPowerBIO Empowers Clusters to Bring SMEs Across the Financial Valley of Death \nMany SMEs experience that even though they have a good idea or a good product\, they cannot get an investor. They need to be able to pitch their idea perfectly\, have a strong business plan\, a clear strategy\, a well-defined customer base\, etc. to attract investors. Filippo will present on how IBF and MPower BIO can assist in navigating the pathway across the difficult valley from ‘Innovation to Business’. \nDr. Filippo Giancarlo Martinelli (MBA\, PDEng\, MSc)\, European Ambassador\, Irish Bioeconomy Foundation \n  \nFunding Perspectives for Scale-up in the European Bioeconomy \nECBF is the first venture fund exclusively focused on the bioeconomy and the circular bioeconomy in Europe. With a target size of €250 million\, to which the European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed €100 million\, ECBF will be an important financial instrument in achieving the European Green Deal goals of making Europe climate neutral by 2050. \nDr. Michael Brandkamp\, European Circular Bioeconomy Fund\, Germany \n  \nCross-border funding opportunities in a critical sector for the island – InterTradeIreland \nInterTradeIreland sees huge opportunities for business growth in Northern Ireland and Ireland through an island wide approach to the bioeconomy. Its passion is to see sectoral growth in the bioeconomy fuelled by cross-border trade and collaboration.
