DESCRIPTION:BiOrbic invites you to join us on Saturday to a ‘plogging’ event. \nWhat? \nPlogging is where you jog or walk through the city\, picking up litter as you go. On Saturday we will have two teams: \nJogging Team Lead: Tanja Narancic \nWalking Team Lead: Burcu Akkoyunlu \nEach team will walk or jog for one hour and we’ll all meet up at the end for a nice coffee! They need to be able to pitch their idea perfectly\, have a strong business plan\, a clear strategy\, a well-defined customer base\, etc. to attract investors. Filippo will present on how IBF and MPower BIO can assist in navigating the pathway across the difficult valley from ‘Innovation to Business’. \nDr. Filippo Giancarlo Martinelli (MBA\, PDEng\, MSc)\, European Ambassador\, Irish Bioeconomy Foundation \n  \nFunding Perspectives for Scale-up in the European Bioeconomy \nECBF is the first venture fund exclusively focused on the bioeconomy and the circular bioeconomy in Europe. With a target size of €250 million\, to which the European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed €100 million\, ECBF will be an important financial instrument in achieving the European Green Deal goals of making Europe climate neutral by 2050. \nDr. Michael Brandkamp\, European Circular Bioeconomy Fund\, Germany \n  \nCross-border funding opportunities in a critical sector for the island – InterTradeIreland \nInterTradeIreland sees huge opportunities for business growth in Northern Ireland and Ireland through an island wide approach to the bioeconomy. Its passion is to see sectoral growth in the bioeconomy fuelled by cross-border trade and collaboration. SUMMARY:Origin Green - How can the bioeconomy support the Pathways to Net Zero initiative?

We’ll hear from Woolcool which produces packaging from sheep’s wool\, Heaxafly which farm black solder flies\, Celignis which will talk about the blue economy using seaweed and Meade Potato which have developed the first starch plant from waste potatoes. \n  \nCommercialising a Natural Material – Sheep’s Wool \nWoolcool based in the UK remains the only packaging company using a range of sheeps wool insulated packaging available on a commercial scale. This presentation will outline how the idea came about for the company and the journey to where the company is now. \nJosie Morris MBE\, Managing Director\, Woolcool\, England \n  \nSurf’s up! Ride the Wave of New Biomaterials from Seaweed \nLalitha will talk on the potential of seaweed in the Irish Bioeconomy and how seaweed-derived materials can be superior to the existing fossil-derived materials that are currently used in personal care\, textiles\, paints\, coating\, and biomedical applications. The focus of the talk will be on the work we are doing at Celignis on fractionation of seaweed. \nDr. Lalitha Gottumukkala\, Chief Innovation Officer\, Celignis\, Ireland   \n  \nExperiences in Developing a New BioBased Company in Ireland \nHexafly farm the Black Soldier Fly using industrial food waste to make a range of high-quality protein derivatives for the animal\, plant and cosmetic industries. This presentation will outline how a biobased SME develops in Ireland and provides advice to new start up biobased companies. \nAlvan Hunt\, Co Founder and CEO at Hexafly\, Ireland \n  \nDiversifying from Potato Growing to a Potato Starch Plant for Higher Value Uses \nMeade Farm Group is a family business traditionally growing potatoes\, carrots and onions. The company recently diversified in using the waste potatoes in producing starch which can be used in many different areas. The company harvests seaweed in Donegal and Mayo\, the seaweed is then processed into specialty products for the global crop nutrition and animal feed markets. Today OGT is a consolidated company with a team of professionals\, operating in Europe and North America. In 2014\, the company was acquired by Tradecorp in Spain. The presentation will outline the company with a virtual tour of the operations in Donegal. \nDavid Murrin\, Factory Manager at Tradecorp International – Rovensa\, Ireland \n  \nManufacturing Compostable Resins \nThis virtual tour will show the process to biorefine products in order to provide the building block for compostable resins. \nTony Breton\, Novamont\, Italy \n  \nPannonia Bio-Biorefinery in Hungary \nFrom its beginnings as a bioethanol producer in 2012\, the refinery has almost tripled in size and developed into a multiproduct facility. Today\, nutrition\, health\, biochemical and fuel bioproducts are manufactured as alternatives to fossil materials. The report demonstrates that the biobased industry is a substantial generator of economic activity and jobs\, and that it has a significant positive impact on the environment.
