SUMMARY:The Cost Of Not Developing A Circular Bioeconomy
DESCRIPTION:The Cost of Not Developing a Circular Bioeconomy: Perspectives informed by carbon accounting and foresight \nanalysis \n16.10.2025 | 10:00–11:30 Irish Time/11:00-12:30 CET | (ONLINE) \nIreland’s greenhouse gas emissions are projected to decline by just 23% by 2030 (relative to\n2018)\, falling short of legislative targets. This underperformance will bring economic as well\nas environmental consequences for the country\, in the form of compliance costs and\nreputational damage. Agriculture and land use account for over 40% of national emissions\,\nand the sector is in need of development pathways which support farmers and rural\ncommunities in transitioning to a more environmentally sustainable\, but economically viable\neconomy. This webinar\, co-organised by the InformBio and FORESIGHT projects\, aims to\nexplore the potential role of circular bioeconomy for the future development of Ireland’s land\nsector\, in line with climate neutrality\, biodiversity and socio-economic objectives – thus\nhelping to mitigate the risks facing Ireland’s agri-food sector. New research findings and\npanel discussion among international experts from carbon accounting\, technical and policy\ndomains will elucidate key issues around future deployment of a negative emission\nbioeconomy. \nAgenda: \n10.00–10.15 – Welcome and Introduction- James Gaffey (MTU)\n10.15–10.30 –Presentation: ”Hard-nosed choices in an uncertain future”- Dave Styles (UoG)\n10.30–10.45–Presentation: ”LCA snapshot of climate mitigation pathways for Ireland”- George\nBishop (UoG)\n10.45–11.20 – Panel Discussion: The Future of Ireland’s Bioeconomy- (Moderator: James Gaffey\,\nMTU)\n11.20–11.30 – Q&A and Close \nUse the link below to register \nhttps://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/ef1e29de-3601-490e-8fb3-e8d531345947@845ee061-0700-412a-90f5-1465fb9a39f1 \nPanelists \nEvan Carey – (Officer\, Department of Climate\, Energy and the Environment (DCEE))\nEilidh Foster (Head of Forest Carbon at DRAX)\nStefan Majer (DBFZ & International Energy Agency\, Bioenergy – Climate and Sustainability Effects\nof Bioenergy within the Circular Bioeconomy)
