Trash to Treasure: The BiOrbic Bio-Plastic Innovation Tour

Ever wonder how we can turn farm waste and food leftovers into sustainable plastic?
Join us during Bioeconomy Ireland Week for a public tour of the PROMOFER Lab at UCD’s BiOrbic Research Centre! Discover how cutting-edge technology is using tiny organisms, like yeast in brewing, to create the next generation of materials and plastics. This is your chance to see how we’re building a truly Circular Bioeconomy right here in Dublin.

The PROMOFER Project: Innovation in Biomanufacturing
The Aim To find ways to make nature-based products cheaper and more efficient so they can actually compete with regular, fossil-fuel plastics in the marketplace.
The PROMOFER project is a major European effort focused on making products from nature, not oil, by finding solutions to industrial bottlenecks.
About BiOrbic: Ireland’s Bioeconomy Research Centre
UCD’s BiOrbic Research Centre is Ireland’s national hub dedicated to the Circular Bioeconomy. We are research made up of scientists, working with farmers, industry, and policymakers to help Ireland replace its reliance on fossil fuels with sustainable resources from land and sea. Our mission is to transform waste into high-value, sustainable products, driving a movement that reduces environmental damage, creates new jobs in rural communities, and helps Ireland achieve its climate goals.
